ビーム物理同好会は１９９６年に結成され、同好会として特に規則ももうけずに活動してきました。この間、ビーム物理の重要性はますます高まり、より正式な、顔の見える組織を結成する必要性が認識されるようになり、２００１年より、ビーム物理研究会と改名し、会則の整備等を行なってきました。
2002年の日本物理学会総会（立命館大学）から、「新領域」としてビーム物理の分科会も開催されました。今後、会員の確定、会員名簿の公開（所属、氏名）、総会の開催、等を行ないビーム物理の研究団体として活動していくつもりです． ビーム物理をさらに発展させ、分野としての成立を促進するため、関心ある方の参加をお待ちしております。
